Professional Experience
I have been involved in the computer industry for over 25 years. On completion of my diploma course in 1980, I worked as a systems analyst and programmer for the Coalite Group plc, where I was part of a team responsible for accounts and payroll programming, using COBOL and NEAT3 on their NCR mainframe.
In 1982 I joined Kalamazoo Business Systems, working initially in business needs analysis and sales; after 18 months I transferred to their client support division, where I was responsible for installation and training in systems for accounts, payroll, estimating and costing, for clients across the North and Midlands. I left in 1986 to work freelance.
Since 1986, I have worked with small and medium-sized businesses of many types, advising, training and providing development on most popular business software.
Since completing my Masters degree in 1996 I have worked increasingly in a consultancy and development role. One of my main areas of expertise lies in the design and development of business tools to meet specific needs and creating special-purpose applications for organisations when they need a non-proprietary solution.
I have worked regularly with Sheffield Hallam University, delivering certified technical training and lecturing on IT subjects on their Masters programmes, as well as authoring and delivering classroom-based training on popular business software.
I maintain the professional currency of my skills and knowledge through continuous development, regularly attending courses, briefings and workshops on IT and business related subjects. |
